Main duties and responsibilities

The Finishing Leader, under the direction of the Particle Board Production Manager, is responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of the Finishing operation including safety, cost, and quality. The position is also responsible for housekeeping, cleanliness of machinery, cost effective supply utilization, discipline, and morale for the PB Finishing area.
• Communicate with Production Manager on quality, production, on-time delivery, and process improvement issues.
• Work closely with maintenance personnel to maximize uptime of equipment on their shift.
• Coordinate training, goal setting, and work schedules for the associates on their shift.
• Organize shift personnel during emergency outages to reduce downtime
• Assist Particle Board Production Manager in coordinating maintenance shutdown activities.
• Coordinate with maintenance staff to correct any safety hazards.
• Provide oversight of daily production and ensure production goals are attained.
• Ensure that production meets quality specifications
• Work closely with lab technicians to ensure test results are communicated and deviations from standard are addressed in a timely manner
• Establish timelines for performance improvement goals
• Coordinate training, goal setting, and work schedules for the associates in the Particle Board Finishing area.
• Assist in the hiring process to include interviewing, selection, and orientation of new associates.
• Assist in the orientation and training of new associates on the assigned shift
• Coordinate with maintenance staff and Department and EHS management to correct any safety hazards.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• 3+ years in a fast paced manufacturing environment
• Proficient use of Microsoft office suite of products
• Bachelor's degree in a wood products discipline or a high school degree with equivalent experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent listening skills
• Excellent math skills
• Complex problem solving skills
• Thorough knowledge of all Particle Board manufacturing methods and equipment
• Thorough knowledge of product quality standards and end uses
• Excellent time management skills
• Must have the qualities of stress tolerance, persistence, self-control, integrity and flexibility
• Strong leadership and motivational skills

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Required up to 1/3 of work time: Sitting, lifting, push/pulling, reaching / face shield/goggles, dust mask/respirator, hard hat and high visibility vest.
• Required 1/3 to ½ of work time: Walking, climbing, bending, written communication.
• Required 2/3 of work time or more: Seeing, hearing, standing, dexterity, verbal communication / ear plugs and safety glasses.
