Main duties and responsibilities

The site Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting the development and administration of Safety and Health policies, programs, and practices at the assigned site. The site Safety Manager will function as an advisor to management on technical and regulatory issues and act as a consultant for all associates to increase efficiency and ensure a safe working environment. This role must ensure compliance with Kronospan, local, state and federal Safety, Health and Environmental regulations and requirements. • Coordinate new hire and annual safety training as determined by law and/or Kronospan guidelines.
• Coordinate all mandatory Health & Safety testing including audiometric and pulmonary function.
• Lead and manage the development, documentation, training and implementation of Health and Safety policies and procedures. Prepare training materials and train new and existing employees on a variety of Safety & Health topics, such as: LOTO, confined space entry, fall protection, fork lift, hot work, etc.
• Maintain all compulsory record keeping and reporting per regulatory guidelines
• Communicate with all appropriate regulatory agencies involved with safety issues including but not limited to OSHA.
• Prepare safety and worker's comp reports for distribution to Management.
• Monitor and implement updates in safety regulations and reporting requirements. Revise current policies and procedures to meet and/or exceed regulatory requirements.
• Monitor performance and effectiveness of health and safety program.
• Work closely with maintenance staff to ensure any safety hazards are corrected.
• Coordinate worker's compensation claims management to include communication with insurance carriers, claims management providers, attorneys and medical care providers.
• Conduct periodic safety and housekeeping inspections and provide reports on findings to appropriate management.
• Conduct safety inspection of all new equipment prior to commissioning.
• Develop and implement Plant Safety practices to create a safe working environment.
• Implement and monitor the Process Safety Management (PSM) program in applicable areas
• Conduct incident investigations, including root cause analysis. Identify and evaluate conditions and practices in the workplace via safety risk assessments. Provide technical support for on-going problem solving, safety statistics, leading indicators, and tracking mechanisms.
• Coach and work with plant leadership to be a visible role model of incident prevention. Analyze safety performance and make recommendations to improve performance. Interact with all levels via daily safety walks. Provide feedback on safety concerns.
• Communicate with Facility Management on safety and health issues
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations. Advise facility management if plant systems or programs approach non-compliance and assist in developing action plan to address issues.

Requirements

• 3-5+ years' experience in a safety management position
• C2-English
Microsoft Office proficiency, especially Excel skills
• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (Safety, Environmental, Industrial Hygiene, Fire Protection, Science, or Engineering) or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
• Professional HSE designation (e.g. CSP) preferred.
• AED/CPR/basic First Aid certifications preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work with little or no direct supervision
• Knowledge of safety and environmental law
• Excellent diplomatic skills and the ability to use them with all levels
• Experience working with government regulators and a thorough knowledge of federal, state & local government HS regulations (OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, etc.).
• Experience working within OSHAs PSM program
