Main duties and responsibilities

The primary purpose of the Wood Yard Operator's position is to perform the safe, efficient operation of the Wood Yard and associated equipment. Additionally, the operator will be required to perform or assist in routine maintenance and cleaning on all machinery and workspaces in the wood yard. The operator will be required to understand and manipulate computer software. The operator will also be required to identify conditions which may lead to substandard quality or up-time including monitoring chip, bark and other raw material quality. Further duties may include assisting maintenance personnel in the troubleshooting, repair, or preventive maintenance of equipment in order to support continuous operations on the production line.
• Must have experience driving heavy equipment such as front end loader, grader, backhoe, bulldozer, or 8-ton lift
• Must be able to work in extreme conditions including rain, heat, cold, and dust.
• Ability to read, comprehend, and follow all JHSAs, technical specifications, and work instructions for the assigned process task.
• Ability to perform routine mechanical and quality inspections of equipment and raw materials.
• Ability to assist in the installation of all new equipment, components, and systems, or the improvement of existing equipment, components, and systems as required.
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance procedures as scheduled or directed.
• Strong sense of teamwork and cooperation; must be dedicated and have an excellent attendance record.
• A positive attitude, open mind, and controlled composure in all workplace interactions.
• Strong sense of urgency and the ability to work without constant supervision.
• The ability to operate heavy equipment including front end loaders, bull dozers, and / or other similar mobile equipment
• Ability to effectively communicate with management and peers
• The ability to lift up to 50 lbs without assistance.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed to cover for vacation, absences, and scheduled/unscheduled shutdowns.

Requirements

• Required up to 1/3 of work time: Sitting, lifting, push/pulling, reaching / face shield & goggles, dust mask/respirator, hard hat and high visibility vest.
• Required 1/3 to ½ of work time: Walking, climbing, bending, written communication.
• Required 2/3 of work time or more: Seeing, hearing, standing, dexterity, verbal communication / ear plugs and safety glasses.
• The ability to perform intermediate to advanced mobile equipment mechanic work
• The ability to work with electric, pneumatic, or hand tools.
