The appropriate person will operate across multiple markets, committed to maintaining a resilient, cost-effective, and sustainable supply chain. Based from our Lignum, Malta Ltd site
We are looking for a highly capable Chemical & Commodity Trader / Procurement Manager to manage the trading of urea, melamine, PMDI, and methanol. The role is critical for ensuring a reliable supply, optimising inventory returns, and maximising value from our stock holdings.

Main duties and responsibilities

Trading & Procurement Strategy
- Develop and implement a comprehensive sales and trading strategy for chemical products.
- Identify, cultivate, and manage relationships with new and existing customers, distributors, and industrial end-users on a global scale.
- Monitor market trends, geopolitical developments, and price volatility to identify commercial opportunities and optimise margin performance.
- Negotiate long-term sales agreements and spot transactions to maximise profitability whilst prudently managing commercial risk.

Customer & Commercial Coordination
- Collaborate closely with internal logistics and operations teams to ensure efficient order execution and high standards of customer service.
- Coordinate with trading and supply teams to align sales commitments with inventory availability and prevailing market conditions.
- Contribute to pricing strategies and sales planning based on demand forecasts and informed market analysis.

Risk & Contract Management
- Develop and maintain commercial risk management strategies in relation to price fluctuations, credit exposure, and market volatility.
- Negotiate and administer sales contracts to ensure the Company's commercial interests are appropriately safeguarded.
- Monitor customer performance, payment terms, credit insurance and contractual compliance.

Market Intelligence & Reporting
- Undertake regular market analysis to identify growth opportunities, emerging demand patterns, and potential new markets.
- Prepare comprehensive sales performance reports, margin analyses, and market outlook briefings for senior management.
- Lead commercial initiatives designed to increase market share and enhance overall trading performance.

Requirements

- Educated to degree level as a minimum. Substantial relevant experience will also be considered.
- A minimum of 5 years experience in commodity trading, sales, or business development, ideally within the chemical sector.
- Strong commercial judgement, with demonstrable experience in driving sales growth and margin optimisation.
- Excellent negotiation skills and a proven ability to develop and manage international customer relationships.
- Sound knowledge of international trade regulations, contractual frameworks, and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical capability, with the ability to interpret market data and translate insights into effective sales strategies.
- Results-oriented, with a proactive and disciplined approach to business development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the preparation of executive-level reports.
- Ability to perform effectively within a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
- Willingness and ability to undertake extensive international travel in order to develop and maintain the Company's global customer base.
