Main duties and responsibilities

Kronospan Ltd. produces the electricity and process heat which is required for the production process of wood-based products via its self-sufficient generation facilities fuelled by natural gas. This comprises three Wärtsilä spark-ignited gas engines with 9.7 MW generation capacity each and two Siemens gas turbines with a rated capacity of 6.44 MW each.
The role of the Electrical Energy Control Engineer includes all aspects of the technical management of the generation facilities. This includes the following aspects:

• Management of existing maintenance contracts for the engines and turbines with the suppliers
• Plan shutdown dates upfront with the senior management and align these with other site shutdowns to minimise the downtime as far as possible
• Outline the scope of service work in collaboration with the suppliers and supervise it to ensure satisfactory performance
• Prepare job specifications for approved suppliers to conduct repairs and other service works which are not covered by existing maintenance contracts
• Isolate the plant’s machinery for all kind of repairs and service work to ensure a safe working environment
• Ensure compliance with all health and safety requirements and take appropriate action to eliminate deficiencies which have been detected
• Maintain records of the plant’s efficiency and analyse the performance data for abnormalities
• Propose improvements to the plant’s design where deemed necessary
• Maintain and improve the company’s maintenance management system
• Provide ad-hoc response to unexpected breakdowns and failures

Requirements

The suitable candidate should provide the following knowledge and experience to perform in this role successfully:

• Bachelors’ degree or equivalent qualification in mechanical, process or electrical engineering
• Sound knowledge of internal combustion engine technology, experience with gas-fuelled engines is a plus
• At least 3 years of experience in the maintenance of industrial machinery; preferably experience in the maintenance of medium speed 4-stroke engines, waste heat boilers and/or gas turbines
• Basic understanding of synchronous alternators and high voltage networks
• Profound knowledge of best engineering practices in mechanical and electrical engineering
• Awareness for safe working procedures and a strong commitment to a permit-to-work system
• Good understanding of electrical control systems, in particular 24V DC control circuits
• Advanced analytical skills to comprehend the interaction of different components and sub-systems in the context of the overall plant and the site’s production process
• Ability to communicate efficiently with stakeholders like suppliers, authorities and internally
• Structured way of working and advanced planning skills to meet deadlines
• Commitment to a call-out rota system to respond to breakdowns immediately at any time
